Project FoundED Community Guidelines and Code of Conduct

Updated July 2022

Our Promise

Our FoundED community is a safe, private space for EdTech company founders focused on equity and impact to come together for peer support, mentorship, and learning and development as they scale their businesses. The goal of this community is for it to be an ever-relevant, crucial resource for founders, regardless of their company’s stage. Rather than a static space, the community’s growth will echo community member’s experiences growing companies: we will test features and functions of the community to quickly trial and scale, or trial and discard, ideas as we go based on community member feedback. Each community member plays a role in building and shaping this community with their thoughts, advice, participation, and leadership.

Data Collection Policy

We will conduct community surveys regularly to collect data about community members and their companies. We will never share individual members’ data with anyone. Our plan is to use the aggregate data we collect and resulting insights to push on investors, foundations, and educational institutions to make better choices for funding, procurement, and partnerships. We will share all data, reports, and other materials produced as a result of data collection with our community members.

Our request in exchange for complimentary access to all community events, free access to all our resources, networking is that you participate in our more comprehensive State of the Industry surveys. This community can’t create the change we all want in the industry without the data and insights we gather through these surveys, so we would love to depend on your collaboration on these 🙌🏽.

Code of Conduct

Identity. Please do not assume the pronouns of others. Remember not to judge people’s gender based on their photos or names they use. Be welcoming and friendly to all community members.

Privacy. This community includes discussion of sensitive topics so that we can support each other, problem solve, and create better solutions for our industry and businesses. Due to the nature of these discussions, please keep what is said confidential unless you receive permission otherwise. Be careful to avoid sharing identifying information of our community members. Always ask the original poster if they are comfortable having their post or experience shared outside the group.

Zero Tolerance for Hate. Each community member plays a role in establishing and promoting a positive, inclusive, and encouraging space for one another. Discussions, posts, actions, or comments that promote hatred of any kind - including, but not limited to, racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, queerphobia, ableism, and ageism - are not acceptable in Project FoundED spaces and will result in you being removed.

Report Bullying. If someone says something incorrect or hurtful, name what impact that has. Report hateful or violent posts, comments, discussions, or actions to admin. See more details on that process below.

Make Space. Check the space you are occupying and let people of different backgrounds share their stories and opinions too. We are here to learn from one another!

Support! Community members spend valuable time giving each other help and guidance. If someone does this for you, acknowledge them and their help. Pay it forward when you can.

How to Report Abuse or Misconduct

If you see anything that you believe breaks our Code of Conduct, please reach out to info@projectfounded.org with screenshots of the post and a link to the post or comments.

We take every report of hatred, violence, and harassment seriously. If someone is found to have broken the Project FoundED code of conduct, they will be removed from the group.

If we determine that a community member broke the Code of Conduct, an admin will warn them about their behavior. We want that person to recognize the impact of their actions and allow for behavioral changes. If there is a second strike, we will remove that person from our community. Certain egregious violations - such as threatening harm toward another member or harassing another member - will result in removal without a warning. The admins reserve the right to make removals without discussion if deemed necessary.

We also recognize that community members may disagree with one another on certain topics or themes. Disagreements turn into violations of the Code of Conduct when they target a community member or members for their viewpoints or identity or encourage discrimination, harassment, or violence.
